The Hyperloop test track tube with its transport cabin is open for viewing before the opening begins. MUNICH — Hyperloop, a mega-fast transportation system dreamed up in 2013 by Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, was supposed to be a reality by now. There has been so much hype, with several firms years ago saying that we would have a mass-scale hyperloop system by now. By the end of the next decade, hyperloop technology will have longer tracks built through continents, Semino said. Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT) and Elon Musk's Boring Company are also exploring the technology.

CNN —In Switzerland, an ambitious proposal could see the construction of an expansive underground network through which self-driving pods would transport freight across the country. The project, called Cargo Sous Terrain (“Underground Cargo” in English), is intended to reduce the reliance on trucks for moving cargo. “In the US, currently we are facing a big shortage of truck drivers and underground freight transport will resolve this issue as well.”In recent years, there have been other proposals for underground freight transport networks around the world. Cargo Sous TerrainA key challenge is working out how to transport freight above ground from the tunnels to stores in cities – without adding to road traffic. CST is “at the forefront” of underground freight transport thanks to its step-by-step approach, he says.

Tesla's Cybertruck is finally beginning production two years behind schedule. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been known to make lofty promises that go undelivered for years at a time. In 2017, Inverse reported, Musk expanded the promise, assuring buyers that it would be just two more years before self-driving Teslas could be used to travel cross-country while passengers sleep. An 'everything' social media app, XIn late 2022, Musk tweeted that his purchase of Twitter was an "accelerant" to the creation of 'X,' the "everything app." According to the same CNBC article, in its most productive year, 2022, Tesla only installed an average of 21 solar system installations per week.

BENGALURU, June 1 (Reuters) - Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google is leading a $36 million funding round for Bengaluru-based Pixxel, a satellite-image startup, in the first major investment in the Indian space sector since the government launched its privatisation policy in April. Pixxel did not specify how much Google had invested or the valuation it reflected. Founder and Chief Executive Awais Ahmed said Pixxel would be "the most valued space tech company in India after this investment". Space startups, in particular, have come under pressure after the bankruptcy of Richard Branson's Virgin Orbit launch company. Ahmed has said he was inspired to launch a space startup from a visit Elon Musk's SpaceX as part of a student competition to build a demonstration "hyperloop" transport pod.

A journalist argues that Musk could use The Boring Company to make public transportation cheaper. This includes solving traffic by moving transportation underground through car tunnels or building a successful hyperloop. And Musk has often been explicit that traditional public transportation options, like subways, would not be a part of his vision. The Boring Company has also put its controversial hyperloop plans to the side. The Boring Company did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
Twitter employees are speculating that The Boring Company CEO Steve Davis could replace Elon Musk as CEO, Platformer reported. The publication said that Davis helped orchestrate a round of layoffs at the social media company that impacted about 200 people this week. The Boring Company CEO spent the first few weeks after his baby was born sleeping in a makeshift bedroom in the office, along with his newborn and partner, according to the report. Before he became CEO of The Boring Company, Davis worked with Musk at SpaceX. Tesla's stock has fallen over 37% since he announced his plans to buy the social media company on April 14.
CNN recently spoke with Malek about what travel will look like by 2050. CNN: Do you think supersonic air travel will return to the skies? Malek: So we’ve seen supersonic planes in the past and I do think we’ll see supersonic planes in the future. So now it’s no longer just a question of will we see supersonic planes, but will they be fueled by net zero carbon fuels? Historically, we’ve started with ‘what do cars need, what do planes need?’ But planes and cars are here just for us.

HyperloopTT to go public via SPAC led by former Disney execs
  + stars: | 2022-11-22 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
Nov 22 (Reuters) - High-speed transportation systems maker Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT) said on Tuesday it would list its shares in the United States through a deal with a blank-check firm at a pre-money valuation of $600 million. The special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) Forest Road Acquisition Corp II (FRXB.N), which is led by former Disney executives Tom Staggs and Kevin Mayer, is expected to provide the combined company $330 million in net proceeds if the SPAC shareholders do not withdraw their money before the deal closes. HyperloopTT, which makes vacuum tube-based ground transportation systems with airplane speeds, has agreed to a SPAC merger at a time when the market's appetite for such deals have fizzled, as the economic outlook worsens with rising interest rates and inflation. The current shareholders and convertible note holders of HyperloopTT will hold $289 million worth of common shares in the company after the deal closes, the company said. A SPAC is a listed company without any business operations, formed to solely raise money and merge with other companies.
The Hyperloop prototype tube was removed from its location outside of SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, Calif, reports say. The above-ground test tunnel was installed in 2016, but sat idle for years, according to the LA Times. The LA Times reported that Hawthorne Council member Angie Reyes English asked city staff to request the removal of the tube. According to the LA Times, it drew complaints from pedestrians and motorists before the city stepped in to have it dismantled. The ambitious invention would reportedly cut the commute from Los Angeles to San Francisco down to 35 minutes, LA Times reported.
The world's fastest trains -- from China to France
  + stars: | 2021-12-10 | by ( Ben Jones | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +16 min
Chogo/Xinhua/Getty ImagesAs well as boasting the longest network of high-speed lines in the world, China now has the fastest scheduled trains on the planet. A statement of intent by China’s booming railway technology industry, the Fuxing trains have been developed from previous generations of high-speed trains, which were based on technology imported from Europe and Japan. The design also forms the basis of the Siemens “Velaro” family of high-speed trains, which has been sold to Spain, Russia, Turkey, China and to Eurostar for its second generation international trains. Europe’s first dedicated high-speed network is still its best known and most successful, reaching out well beyond France’s borders. Frecciarossa services operate across Italy’s T-shaped high-speed network, linking Turin, Milan and Venice in the north with Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples.

One solution to the problem is autonomous trucks, and several companies are in a race to be the first to launch one. The journey was completed in 14 hours versus the usual 24 with a human driver, mostly because a truck doesn't need to sleep. Its plans are dependent on state legislation, however, because currently some states do not allow for testing of autonomous trucks on public roads. According to Lu, that's still cheaper than paying for a human driver. But you're saving the cost of a human driver, which based on average US wages is about $80,000 to $120,000 per year -- or 80 cents to $1.20 per mile.

watch nowBoring CandyFlamethrowersMusk announced in December that his Boring transportation company would start selling flamethrowers. The Boring-branded gadgets were an encore to the company's signature hats — and a little closer to blow torches. The company has achieved a myriad of milestones since its founding but reuse was only realized in the last few years. In December 2015, SpaceX took a first massive step towards reusability when it became the first company to land part of an orbital rocket. Just over a year later, SpaceX took another giant step, by launching and landing a Falcon 9 rocket it launched and landed once before.
